Legion of Super-Heroes HD Wallpaper: A Cosmic AdventureWhat a wonderful few weeks we've had at Waunarlwydd Primary! We've welcomed several real-life heroes into school over the last few weeks. A huge thanks must go to the Swansea West Fire Brigade, Oxwich Coastguard team and Western Beacons Mountain Rescue team. They had the opportunity to ride trucks, wear kit, spray hoses, learn valuable life-saving skills and develop their knowledge of the skills required to be a member of these amazing services. We've also had a visit from the Gower Seal group and Gareth gave the children some very interesting information about the seals of Gower and how we can all do our best to protect them. Our local police force also popped in to teach the children all about life as a police officer. All the children thoroughly enjoyed learning about life as a public hero. Diolch yn Fawr!

Our sports teams have been in action over the last few weeks with our athletics and cricket teams competing. Our athletics team had the honour of wearing our new kit for the first time (thanks again to our PTA) and they certainly looked the part during the county championship. Their performances were equally impressive, with the attitude and skills on show amazing! Most pleasing was the way the children cheered on their teammates. Our cricket team have travelled to our neighbours at Gowerton for a couple of matches and, again, represented the school magnificently. Well done everyone!

Our Year 5 children enjoyed a morning at Gowerton comprehensive School, where they enjoyed lessons in Science, Technology and Art. We hope that those parents and children that were able to attend the open day this week enjoyed! A big thanks to Gowerton for hosting!

We've enjoyed 2 class assemblies over the last few weeks. Firstly, Miss Shaw's class delivered a wonderful assembly teaching us all about how we can all be heroes everyday. The clear message was, 'A hero doesn't mean being perfect, it means doing the right thing, helping others and standing up for things that are right even when it's hard.'

A huge thanks to Mr Price's class for delivering a superb assembly focusing on one of our core vales at Waunarlwydd, 'POSITIVITY'. It provided lots of food for thought with regards to our daily choices and was performed expertly by the superstars in Year 4 and 5. Well done all!

Without a doubt, the highlight of the last few weeks has been our Whole School Community Sports Day. The weather was extremely kind (very hot) and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the day. Big thanks again to our PTA for their support and to the staff, led by Miss Tyrrell, for the time and effort that went into organising. The biggest congratulations must go to our incredible children. They all participated with big smiles and a great attitude. It was a pleasure to see! Well done also to our parents that took part in races, thanks for being great sports. We hope everybody enjoyed and we look forward to building on this year's success next year!

End of term dates to remember

It's hard to believe we've only got 3 weeks left of the school year but we are determined to make them ones to remember! Some key events and dates follow:

Week beginning 30th June - World of work week

Wednesday July 2nd - Year 6 Cafe Cynefin

Thursday July 3rd - Summer Fair

Friday 4th July - INSET DAY

Tuesday 8th July - Year 5 football tournament

Friday 11th July - Whole School Beach trip

Week beginning 14th July - Activities TBC

Monday July 21st - INSET DAY (Last day for pupils in Friday 18th July)

Attendance remains a major priority for the local authority and Welsh Government. Our whole school attendance stands at 91.7% for the academic year so far. While the Education Welfare Service has commented positively on the progress of many individuals, there remain concerns! Your continued support of attendance is crucial! Please make contact if you have any concerns.

Remember, this is 'OUR SCHOOL' and, as always, if you have any queries, concerns or ideas, don’t hesitate in making contact!

Have a great weekend!

Diolch pawb!
