Latest News - Friday 6th June

A great week to begin our final half-term of the year with Waunarlwydd School full of learning and laughter! The weather has been changeable but the children and staff have certainly filled the school with 'positivity', which is our focus value for this half-term. It was a pleasure to join Reception to year 3 on their wonderful trip to the Wetlands Centre. Children and staff thoroughly enjoyed, with the respect and kindness on display a credit to our wonderful pupils. We now look forward to the fun-filled 6 weeks ahead! Thanks, as always, for your ongoing support!

A huge thanks, once again, to our amazing PTA. Their latest contribution has been the purchase of sports kits so our school teams can look the part. We are trying to increase the sporting events we take part in and we can now look forward to participating in style! This is only possible through the support of the whole school community and a massive thanks must go to parents and families for their continued support of the PTA and events. It's been an extremely successful year and the children will benefit greatly from all the efforts. We will provide an overview of spending before the end of term! Diolch pawb!

Dates for the diary

We've got some dates for the diary to share, including our Sports Day. This year we are changing it up again and are going to attempt a whole school community Sports Day in partnership with our PTA. Don't worry, the parent races will remain, so we hope you have all been in training! You should have received further details! A reminder that Friday July 4th is an INSET DAY (Our final INSET Day is on Monday July 23rd - Last day for children is Friday July 20th)

Online Personalised assessments

Just a reminder that during the month of June, children in Years 2 to 6 will be completing online personalised assessments in Reading and Numeracy. These are not used as “tests” or have any form of high accountability stakes for pupils or the school. They do, however, provide us with some information about what your child can do well, and needs to do next. They will be delivered in an informal manner which minimises any potential anxiety. Please be assured that pupils will not be put under any pressure, and will see these as an activity like any other.

**Reminder - Parent Workshops**

Attendance remains a major priority for the local authority and Welsh Government. Our whole school attendance stands at 91.7% for the academic year so far. While the Education Welfare Service has commented positively on the progress of many individuals, there remain concerns! Your continued support of attendance is crucial! Please make contact if you have any concerns.

Remember, this is 'OUR SCHOOL' and, as always, if you have any queries, concerns or ideas, don’t hesitate in making contact!

Have a great weekend!

Diolch pawb!
