Friday February 13th

It's been great to see the sun finally shining as we come to the end of another half-term and reach the halfway point of our school year. At this point, a big thanks to all staff, families and, most importantly, children for continuing to work together and communicate positively as we strive to make 'OUR' school the best it can possibly be! Your voice matters, we would be grateful if you could take the time to complete the following parent questionnaire to support our action planning:

Parent Questionnaire - Spring 2026 – Fill in form

There are lots of learning highlights to report. Unsurprisingly considering our topic title 'Food Glorious food', food has been a big hit! The children loved learning about different cultures, cooking various items and, most importantly, tasting dishes from all over the world. Our top 3 hits have been Chinese food, Welsh rarebit muffins and our innovated flatbreads. We have some future chefs in the making at Waunarlwydd! Other highlights included food tasting in Nursery and learning all about the Great Race and dragon dances in Reception. Learning how to write Chinese numbers in Year 1 was a big hit and writing story innovations from 'Super Tato' in Year 2. Year 3 have loved their Kahoot science quiz and Welsh folk dancing.

A clear favourite in years 4 and 5 has been writing and filming persuasive 'Caffi Cynefin' adverts, adding voice-overs and sound effects. As well as all the learning in school, Year 6's standout event has been working with Mr Phormula, Welsh beatboxer and rapper, to create their own rap alongside Gowerton Primary. They also thoroughly enjoyed their literacy experience at Gowerton Comprehensive, and they have planned their own stories following a myth and fairy tale journey. These will be their Eisteddfod story competition entries.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all to our 'Caffi Cynefin' days after half-term. Classes will be sent details of dates. You are in for a treat as the children are excited to showcase their learning, including some fantastic culinary skills!

Sporting Success

Our school rugby and football teams have enjoyed some success recently, with our rugby team showcasing their excellent skills against Gowerton and Crwys, while our footballers showed their talent against Gowerton. Both teams have tournaments during the first week after half-term.

Our latest attendance review with our education welfare office has highlighted both significant progress and some concerns regarding individual attendance. We will be contacting some families after half-term to discuss any support we can offer to raise attendance. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate in making contact.

Teacher / Parent Meetings

Teacher/parent meeting will take place during the last fortnight of term (16th to 26th March). Details on how to book an appointment will be sent after half-term. In the meantime, if you have any concerns, don't hesitate in making contact.
